Last summer at the Shell Lake Arts Center you were invited to enjoy the performance of the 132nd Army Band from Madison, WI. Wasn’t that a show and an honor!  And how about the performance of Peru Native, Myriam Avalos?  Her week spent at the Shell Lake Arts Center teaching and performing was full of passion, power, expression, and sensitivity. She stays busy working and performing in Latin America, Europe, and Asia, but she loves it here and wishes to return.  Hey, that sounds like our campers who tell us that they want to come back to camp year after year! Why?  Because they have found their safe place! “The Shell Lake Arts Center is the only place I can truly be myself.”

Please meet Aunya from Eagan, MN.  She has been coming to jazz camp for 4 years.

“When I first came to camp it was horrifying. There were so many kids like me who were nervous and unsure of ourselves. Forced to meet new people in a strange place, but what a welcoming place to be.  It’s now a part of the person I’m growing into. The teachers are insane, I mean crazy good! There is no other place on earth where a kid like me can play side-by-side with so many professional musicians. They teach you so much more than music.  I can assure you that everything else aside, I feel so proud of myself and that’s a feeling you don’t want to miss!”

Please, close your eyes for a moment, and imagine our stage is lit and hundreds of young artists appear in front of the eager audience. They perform for you with all the courage they have gained at the Shell Lake Arts Center. You hear the applause and see them light up brighter than our stage lights.  You can see that they have found a place to belong – to renew their enthusiasm, build character, and overcome obstacles on their journey to become thoughtful, active, and successful members of society, just like you!

You can help transform the life of a child simply by giving again during this holiday season. I am certain of the joy you’ll continue to receive in return for the joy you give. You can see it on the face of every camper!

We have a goal of $26,500 for our Annual Fund. Please give what you can so we can provide a safe place for our kids!

Donate today.  You can help us keep changing lives! Thank you to all who have donated already to our annual fund!
